Dongying has established an integrated ecological monitoring system for the Yellow River Delta, combining satellite remote sensing, drone patrols, ground-based sensors and offshore monitoring equipment to strengthen environmental protection and management.
The system enables the continuous monitoring of wetlands, coastlines, water quality, wildlife habitats and marine conditions. AI-powered cameras can identify more than 300 bird species, while drones and other remote-sensing technologies improve patrol efficiency and support the faster detection of ecological risks.

The city has also stepped-up biodiversity conservation through the use of AI recognition, satellite tracking and environmental DNA monitoring. So far in 2026, the Yellow River Delta has recorded 235 oriental white stork nests and 543 of this species, setting a new local record.
