German industrial automation company LOGOMAT has expanded its production capacity and business reach in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ), where it has been operating since 2019.

The company specializes in intelligent conveyor systems used in automotive manufacturing. Its eCART system uses self-driven carts instead of conventional tracks fitted with numerous drive components. Each cart has an independent control and drive system and can detect obstacles, slow down, and stop automatically. With a maximum load capacity of two metric tons, the system can be used to assemble diesel engines, new energy vehicle battery packs, and electric drive axles.

LOGOMAT's customers include Weichai, BMW, Cummins, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Ford.

The company's German headquarters has specialized in intelligent conveyor systems for more than 40 years. When LOGOMAT decided to establish a factory in China in 2019, it chose Qingdao after considering the city's industrial base and location advantages.

Since then, the company has continued to expand its local operations, while its revenue has grown from several million yuan in its early years to tens of millions of yuan today. Its customer base has also expanded from mainly foreign-invested enterprises to include more Chinese companies.

David Hummerich, general manager of LOGOMAT automation (Qingdao), said the company had experienced strong support for foreign-invested projects since establishing operations in the area and had felt the local commitment to supporting business development.

LOGOMAT is one of 78 companies from German-speaking countries operating in the Qingdao FTZ. Other German companies have also expanded their presence in the zone, including Siempelkamp, which has increased its total investment from 11.8 million euros ($13.7 million) to 34 million euros through three rounds of investment and expansion.
