A company based in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ) has developed a domestically produced energy recovery device that significantly improves the efficiency of seawater desalination, supporting the localization of key high-end equipment.

Developed by Qingdao Aolong Special Ceramic Products Manufacturing, the device recovers pressure from high-pressure concentrated brine generated during the desalination process and transfers it to incoming seawater. By reusing energy that would otherwise be lost, the technology reduces the overall energy consumption of desalination systems by about 60 percent.

The device has passed testing at the Lingang testing base of the Tianjin Institute of Seawater Desalination and Comprehensive Utilization, China's largest seawater desalination testing platform. The results provide technical data to support the wider application of domestically developed equipment in large-scale desalination projects.

The company said it will continue promoting the domestic application of key equipment for large-scale seawater desalination, while contributing to energy conservation and more efficient industrial wastewater treatment.
