The Chinese-style modernization proposed at the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress is a new attempt, said Lee Kap-young, former vice-president of Incheon National University, South Korea.

"In the past, when people mentioned modernization, they thought of European modernization. From this perspective, the modernization proposed by China is a brand new challenge and attempt," he said.

"The past decade has been a decade of extraordinary significance for China. After undergoing reform and opening-up, China has gone further into the world. China is planning its development from a global perspective and expects to play an increasingly important role in the international community in the future," Lee added.

According to the 20th National Congress of the CPC report, Chinese modernization is the modernization of a huge population with common prosperity for all, material and cultural-ethical advancement, harmony between humanity and nature, and peaceful development.

China has learned from the successful experience of other countries' modernization. It has also made considerable progress based on its own situation in the new era.
