Lin Fanru, a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, submitted two proposals focusing on the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) during this year's two sessions, the annual meetings of the country's top legislative and advisory bodies, which kicked off in Beijing on March 5.

Lin, also the chairman of Sunhover Group in Linyi, Shandong province, made his suggestions on issues concerning reform of the examination and approval system for TCM, TCM innovation and information connectivity in medical services.

"Although the country has paid more and more attention to the development of TCM in recent years, with policy and regulatory system gradually improving, there are still many difficulties in the process of concrete implementation," Lin said.

To revitalize TCM, Lin believes that current science and technology, as well as innovation, should be injected into the industry.

Lin also pointed out that many of the approval standards of TCM were formulated 10 or 20 years ago, severely restricting the innovative development of TCM.

He suggested reforming and improving the management of TCM registration, review and approval to improve efficiency.

"A record system for changes in TCM production technology should be fully implemented, and a TCM evaluation technology system reflecting the characteristics of TCM should be established," he said.
