The port city of Yantai will strive to promote its opening up to fuel more vigor for economic development, said Zhang Shuping, Party secretary of Yantai, East China's Shandong province and also a deputy to the third session of the 13th National People Congress.

Zhang said more projects would be constructed to help improve people's livelihoods and the urban environment, to further boost the economy and achieve steady growth.

More efforts will also be made to promote the city's foreign trade and attract foreign investment, Zhang said. The newly-built Yantai Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone has been a major boon in this regard and attracted 46 foreign-funded companies to locate there last year.

The third session of the 13th NPC opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on May 22 and will be conclude on May 28.

The Yantai delegation -- including Zhang and Chen Feng, mayor of Yantai -- arrived in Beijing on May 19 to attend the event and they will discuss major political, economic and social issues at the session.
