Students inspired by Chinese unmanned submersible

A live video showing how China's unmanned submersible "Hailong III" or "Sea Drogon III" was operated to dive into deep water, has inspired students to expand the horizon of knowledge on Thursday in a scientific education event in Qingdao, Shandong province.

The remote operated vehicle, carried by its mother-ship Dayang Yihao or Ocean No.1, has been executing its 52nd voyage in the southwest India Ocean.

Students from the Middle School Affiliated to Qingdao University were invited to talk to researchers aboard and learn their experiences, including how they do sampling works at chemical and biological laboratories.

The scientific education event was jointly held by Ministry of Natural Resources North China Sea Administration and First Institute of Oceanography.

The event aimed to inspire young generations to deepen understanding of nature and enhance their economical awareness, ahead of the 50th Earth Day, which falls on Monday.

The research vessel Dayang Yihao left the port in Qingdao on Dec 10 and is set to return in July. The voyage is expected to cover 23,900 nautical miles.
